26 percents of countries in the world implement blasphemy regulation

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, WASHINGTON -- In a meeting with media in International Religious Freedom Report last year, Middle East Committe for International Religious Freedom David Saperstein revealed, Pew Research report on July 29, 2016 stated countries in the whole world have a ban of apostasy and blasphemy.

As written by CNSNEWS, based on 2014, Pew Research said about a quarter of countries and areas in the world (26 percents) had regulations and policies related to blasphemy. More than 1:10 of the countries (13 percents) had law and policies on apostasy with varioua punishment and fines. This not includes the US.

In 2012, Los Angeles Times reported there was a law on blasphemy in US.  "Law on blasphemy is existed in some books of states, although it is died letter. One of them is in Massachussets," said Los Angeles Times.

Part 36 of Massachussets Legislature said: "Whoever wilfully blasphemes the holy name of God by denying, cursing or contumeliously reproaching God, his creation, government or final judging of the world, or by cursing or contumeliously reproaching Jesus Christ or the Holy Ghost, or by cursing or contumeliously reproaching or exposing to contempt and ridicule, the holy word of God contained in the holy scriptures shall be punished by imprisonment in jail for not more than one year or by a fine of not more than three hundred dollars, and may also be bound to good behavior."

Based on the official site of Universal Society Library of Universal Unitarian, Amber Kneeland was the last person charged with blasphemy in 1835 in Massachussets. He got 60 days imprisonments.  

The report did not included religious freedom analisys in US. It mentioned that many Muslim majority country implemented law of blasphemy.
