President Xi wants Indonesia-China ties to be stronger

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, HANGZHOU - Chinese President Xi Jinping has expressed the hope that the existing good relations and cooperation with Indonesia would be further consolidated in the future.

Xi made the remarks while receiving a courtesy call from Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) in Hangzhou, China, on Friday (9/2).

President Joko Widodo is in Hangzhou to attend the 11th G20 summit.

Xi said Indonesia and China are two good neighboring countries. "Indonesia and China will always be good neighbors and good partners who will build mutual trust and strengthen relations as comprehensive strategic partners," he underlined.

Xi noted that Indonesia and China need to strengthen coordination and cooperation in integrating their vision of the 21st silk maritime route and global maritime axis as well as to expand cooperation in various fields, such as infrastructure, investment, trade, and finance.

In addition, President Xi is also looking forward to strengthening people-to-people relations and cooperation through cultural exchange, education, health and media.

China will support ASEAN, including the ASEAN Economic Community, through joint consultations with Indonesia at various international forums to work closely to promote the interests of developing nations, he stressed.

At the meeting, President Joko Widodo expressed his support for China which is hosting the G20 summit for the first time.

At the meeting, President Jokowi was accompanied by Foreign Minister Retno LP Marsudi, Finance Minister Sri Mulyani, Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs Luhut Pandjaitan, Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung, Communication and Information Minister Rudiantara, Trade Minister Enggartiasto Lukito, and Chief of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) Thomas Trikasih Lembong.
