REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Ministry of Public Works and Housing is accelerating the construction of the Trans Java toll road to anticipate an increase in homebound trips, especially during the holiday seasons.

Minister of Public Works and Housing Basuki Hadimuljono stated here on Monday (July 18) that the construction of the toll road was expected to be completed by the end of this year.

"We will soon complete the construction of the Trans Java toll road. If God willing, it will become operational before 2017," he emphasized.

However, Basuki believes that the construction of the toll road will be completed in 2018.

The minister added that at least the toll road can be operated up to Pemalang.

Basuki explained that the Trans Java toll road will connect Brebes to Semarang, with the distance between Brebes and Pemalang being 37 kilometers; Pemalang-Batang section, 35 kilometers; and Batang-Semarang section, 75 kilometers.

"Next week, we will check the roads and gates along with the developers," the minister stated.

Basuki noted that the toll road will reduce traffic jams by up to 40 percent during the holiday seasons.

The ministry is also constructing flyovers over railway lines at several locations in Central Java: Brebes, Pekalongan, Klonengan, Sumpiuh, and Paguyangan.

The construction will be completed within six months, Basuki added.
