Indonesia continues to support Palestinian independence bid

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Extraordinary Summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) officially opened. OIC summit will produce declarations and resolutions for the settlement of the conflict in Palestine.

The event was attended by 605 delegates from 57 countries started with the recitation the Holy Koran. Then the first speech delivered by Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Soukry as Chairman of the 12th OIC Summit.

Furthermore, the President of Indonesia Joko Widodo delivered his remarks as host. In a speech Jokowi said that by amending the constitution, as long as Palestine is not yet independent Indonesia will continue to stand up against the Israeli occupation.

"As long as the nation's independence has not been handed over to the Palestinians, Indonesian nation will always stand against the Israeli occupation," said President in the presence of heads of state and government at a summit of the OIC in the JCC, Jakarta, Monday.

Jokowi also called on the international community to help put an end to all forms of colonialism in the world. The Islamic world also called for the UN to support this.

LB OIC summit would issue a resolution and the Jakarta Declaration, which would spawn concrete steps in solving the Palestinian issue.
