REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SOLO -- An International Rain Festival will be held in Solo, Central Java, on January 17-18, 2015, at the Mugi Dance Studio, which is also the renowned dancer Mugiyo Kasido's home in Pucangan, Kartasura, Sukoharjo, Central Java.
The annual rain festival is held, so that visitors can enjoy nature's grace and also serves as a platform for artists and the civil society to collaborate in creating artworks in the countryside, Kasido remarked here on Thursday.
"We sometimes undervalue the importance rain, which in fact contributes to the existence of all living beings. We see the rain as a disturbance, a source of inconvenience that needs to be avoided. If we could harness it, then such discomfort would not be experienced," Kasido emphasized.
The festival was actually initiated in December and will last until April in accordance with the rainy season.
The peak of the event will take place on the weekend, January 17-18, 2015, at the Mugi Dance Studio.
Various art exhibits by local and international artists from Mexico, Japan, and Italy, will be on display during the peak event.
Besides the art exhibition, a photography exhibition and some workshops will also be held on the sidelines of the event.
Mugiyo Kasido will be the keynote speaker in a workshop on dancing after the main event. A workshop will also be organized by Romo Kirjito on how rain water can be used as a medicine to treat cancer.
Five stages will be built for the festival in an area spanning 2.8 thousand square meters. The participants can enjoy all the performances that take place at unique areas such as on the grass field, under bamboo trees, at a cowshed, and a pendapa, a large pavilion-like Javanese structure built on columns.
The organizer will not provide any roof or shade, but the visitors are advised to bring along their own umbrellas or simply enjoy the rain.
