Indonesia sends two diplomatic notes to Malaysia

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Indonesian Government has sent two diplomatic notes to Malaysia over two rape cases. The first case involves an Indonesian female worker and three Malaysian police. The second one is also involving an Indonesian female worker, raped and locked up by her employer. 

Minister for Foreign Affairs, Marty Natalegawa, emphasized that Indonesia could not accept the manner of Malaysian police towards Indonesian citizen. He said that he was talked to his Malaysian counterpart over the case. "The Malaysian Government also condemn it," Natalegawa said on Tuesday. 

Minister explains that the three suspects would be indicted on November 16. They will be sentenced to 20 years in prison. Meanwhile, Indonesian Consulate General in Penang protects the victim and provides her a lawyer. 

 

Another case of rape

 

Only Monday, Indonesian government learnt about another case of rape on an Indonesian female worker working in Malaysia. The perpetator was her employer and  Indonesian Embassy in Kuala Lumpur was informed about the case from Diraja Malaysia Police Department on November 12. 

The Indonesian worker was raped by her male employer and persecuted by her female employer on November 5, 2012. Both suspects are fleeing to Seramban. "Local police is chasing them," Natalegawa said on Tuesday.

Indonesian Embassy in Kuala Lumpur has sent a team to Seramban to meet the victim and protect her. She is now being treated in Seramban Hospital.

The Minister explained that the victim was a scavenger in Jakarta. An irresponsible person offered her a job in Malaysia through illegal recruitment. In Malaysia, she has worked for several employers.
