REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, DENPASAR -- The occupancy rate at star-rated hotels in Bali is forecast to jump by 75 percent on an average due to the current Eid al-Fitr, or "Lebaran," holiday.

Cokorday Oka Artha Ardana Sukawati, chairman of the Bali chapter of the Indonesia Association of Hotels and Restaurants, stated here on Wednesday that the July-August period is the peak season, especially for domestic tourists arriving on the island.

"We have forecast an increase of up to 75 percent in the hotel occupancy rate this month," he noted.

Meanwhile, the hotel occupancy rate is forecast to rise by up to 80 percent at the peak of the season in August.

Sukawati said the occupancy rate at several star-rated hotels could even increase by up to 90 percent.

Sukawati pointed out that most domestic tourists staying at star-rated hotels in Bali hailed from big cities, such as Jakarta, Surabaya, and Bandung.

During the period between 12 days before and a day after Eid, passenger arrivals at Bali's Ngurah Rai airport largely constituted domestic tourists reaching 188,362, arriving aboard regular and additional flights.

A total of 183,461 people left Bali for Eid. Compared to other regions in the country, the number of visitors arriving in Bali is more than those leaving the province.
