REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, KAOHSIUNG -- The Indonesian tourism ministry is targeting 275 thousand foreign tourists from Taiwan to visit their tourist sites in 2016, a senior advisor at the tourism ministry said.
"The target is bigger than the number of Taiwanese tourist arrivals in the previous year, which stood at 211,528. The number of Taiwanese tourists who know Indonesia is increasing. Therefore, the target is a realistic one because the geographical locations of the two countries are not far from each other," senior advisor Harry Waluyo told the press here Friday.
Harry made the remarks on the sidelines of a trade show of the Asia Pacific Junior Chamber International (JCI) where Indonesia is taking part to promote its tourism potential.
The tourism senior advisor said that Indonesia this year set a target to attract two million Chinese tourists, of which 755 thousand will come from Taiwan.
Most of the Taiwanese tourists come to Jakarta for a business deal. But after the business deal, they want to relax and choose to visit Bali for a holiday.
"There are also Taiwanese tourists who want to visit the Seribu Islands. We will of course facilitate them, but we will also promote other interesting places in Indonesia," he said.
Taiwan now has very advanced tourist spots and most of its tourists are coming from growing business circles and are still young. "We are targeting them to visit Indonesia," he said.
Regarding the Indonesian participation of the Asia Pacific JCI trade show, Harry said that the event is a good opportunity for Indonesia to promote its tourist attractions, as the organisation has members in 100 countries in the world and 30 others in the Asia Pacific region.
"Although we are taking part in the exhibition in Taiwan, visitors come from various countries, so businessmen from many countries can also visit our potential tourist sites," he said.
Indonesia hopes that as many foreign tourists as possible will visit the country. But it has to prepare good tourist destinations as a popular nation.
Indonesia will intensively promote its tourism potential not only in Taiwan but also in China so that its target to attract two million Chinese tourists would be achieved.
