REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, TOKYO - Several Japanese who attended workshop 'The Wonderful Experience of Indonesia Through Batik Workshop' at ASEAN-Japan Centre, Tokyo, stated that they were interested in Indonesian batik.
One of workshop participants was Mizuki Murayama, student of Takushoku University. Murayama said, batik is a traditional Indonesian clothing that is still widely used.
"Batik is like kimono in Japan. I like kimono, I also like batik," said the girl who has been several times to Indonesia, Saturday (28/11).
Murayama claimed to have seven batik sarongs that she bought in Yogyakarta. She hoped batik and kimono could be equally accepted by international community.
"Indonesian people are very kind. They also had plenty of time to spend with family and friends," she added.
Meanwhile, Nabuko Sasaki, a retired of Indonesian lecturer at several universities in Japan, said that he was always using batik while teaching in the classroom.
"It was also to introduce Indonesian culture to the students. I have some batik clothing purchased in Tanah Abang Jakarta, Batik Keris in Malioboro Yogyakarta and Semarang," he said.
Sasaki admitted to very happy to join the batik workshop held at Indonesian Ministry of Tourism in Japan. Moreover, he had opportunity to try to create their own batik.
"I've read and view the video process of making batik before, but this is my first experience of making batik. It turned out very difficult," he explained.
