REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BANDUNG -- Bandung, the capital city of West Java, will hold dozens of events to usher in the 60th anniversary of the Asian-African Conference (AAC) to be held in April.

"The festival will attract domestic and foreign tourists. The festival is divided into two sections: a main event and a sub-event," Bandung Mayor Ridwan Kamil noted here on Tuesday.

Kamil revealed that the main event of the festival is the SmartCity Summit, which will be attended by hundreds of delegates from countries in Asia, Africa, Europe, and the United States.

Furthermore, Kamil stated that the 60th anniversary of the Asian-African Conference should be used to promote Bandung to the world.

"So far, about 4.5 thousand people are assisting in the implementation of the Asian-African Conference," he remarked.

In addition, dozens of events managed by the Department of Culture and Tourism of Bandung and the local communities will also enliven the commemoration.

"There will be six main events and 10 sub-events from April 21 to April 27," Reni, a spokesman of the Tourism and Culture Department, noted.

She explained that the local government has prepared logos and decorations to welcome the 60th anniversary of the Asian-African Conference.

"During the festival, twenty thousand people will play the Angklung together," Reni noted.

Meanwhile, she remarked that a cultural trip to West Bandung and Bandung sub-district is also on the cards.

Earlier, the Indonesian government will organize a commemoration of the 60th anniversary of the Asia-Africa Conference and the 10th anniversary of the New Asian African Strategic Partnership (NAASP) in April 2015.

Two major events will be held respectively in Bandung, West Java, and Jakarta, Foreign Affairs Minister Retno P. Marsudi noted during a press conference here on Friday.

The first segment will be organized in Jakarta on April 19-23, 2015, and the second one in Bandung, on April 24, 2015.

The Indonesian government will invite 109 world leaders and 25 international organizations to attend the events.

Several ministerial- and senior official-level meetings will be held alongside the world leaders' summit in Jakarta to discuss efforts to intensify South-South cooperation, to improve the public welfare, and to maintain world peace.

Some side events such as the Asia-Africa Business Summit and Asia-Africa Carnival will also be organized in Bandung.
