REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Arts and Culture division of Indonesian Council of Ulemas (MUI) said the new G30S/PKI film must show cruelty of the Indonesian Communist Party, especially against clerics and religious figures. Therefore, people would aware that the massacre was not only targeted to military generals.

"I think the film needs to be revised. I must show cruelty of PKI, especially when they slaughtered ulemas," Chairman of Arts and Culture MUI, KH Sodikun said on Tuesday (October 3), in response to President Joko Widodo's suggestion to update the G30S/PKI film.

He said the way PKI arrested and massacred many clerics and religion leaders in regions must be shown in the new version of communist party insurgence film.

"If it only shows PKI's cruelty to the alleged general council, there will be many perspectives and it might be drawn to political aspects. People might think it was just a conspiracy, PKI did not do any cruelty in the past," he explained.

However, Sodikun emphasized valid datas from field should be used as reference in new remake film. He disagreed if G30S/PKI new film still only show massacre of the general council.
