REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Vice Chairman of the People's Consultative Assembly, Hidayat Nur Wahid (HNW) hoped the 2019 general election (Pilpres) will be lively and bring a lot of alternative candidates to the people.

Therefore, the people would not see old players. He used the term '4L' (lo lagi, lo lagi/same old players) to describe same old candidates.

According to Hidayat, Pilpres will be lively with one condition. "It can only be realized by applying regulation of zero percent presidential treshold," he said on Tuesday.

Hidayat believed, zero percent presidential treshold will bring new alternatives and hopes for Indonesian people.

He said, 20 percent presidential threshold will reduce public enthusiasm in welcoming Pilpres. The chance for new candidates to emerge will also be small, he remarked.

"I am afraid, if candidates running in Pilpres just the same old persons, the winner will be the abstains. We surely hope the winner will be democracy itself and Indonesian people who vote for alternative candidates," Hidayat commented as he predicted with 20 percent presidentiial threshold there will only bring out three pair of candidates eligeble to compete in Pilpres.
