REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The National Narcotic Agency (BNN), the Aceh customs and excise office, and the Aceh narcotic office (Aceh BNN) have foiled an attempt to smuggle 137.75 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine and 42.5 thousand ecstasy pills from Malaysia into the province.

"On Monday (Sept 18) and Tuesday (Sept 19), the joint team of BNN, the Aceh customs and excise office, and the Aceh BNN) had investigated the smuggling attempt from Malaysia into Indonesia via sea in Kuala Glumpang, East Aceh," Inspector General, Arman Depari, BNN's Deputy in charge of drug eradication, told Antara here on Thursday.

The team had tried to stop a suspected fishing boat and given it a warning, but the boat fled and its crew tried to escape to the land, but they were arrested and the boat was inspected.

Three suspects, identified by their initials as MS, MH, and IB were arrested, and the illicit drugs were found in fish drums.

They remarked that they had picked the drugs from a ship (ship to ship) in the marine border between Indonesia and Malaysia.

The smugglers and the illicit drugs were moved to Jakarta from Aceh via Medan, North Sumatra.

Last Aug, a team comprising officers of the National Narcotic Agency (BNN), Indonesian Defense Forces (TNI), and West Kalimantan's Custom and Excise Office foiled the smuggling of 10.39 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine from Malaysia into Indonesia.

"The operation was conducted following a tip-off received from people informing that there would be an attempt to smuggle crystal methamphetamine through the Malaysia-Indonesia border in Entikong through a drug courier PH," BNN Chief Commissioner General Budi Waseso stated in Jakarta in early Sept.

"Based on the tip-off, the joint team was formed to investigate the case," he added.

"On Aug 27, 2017, at 7:30 a.m. Western Indonesian Standard Time (WIB), the joint team caught PH at Batang Karang Street No. 6, Makkawing Market, Batang Tarang Sub-district, Sanggau District, West Kalimantan," he stated.
