5.1-magnitude earthquake jolts Bali

No further aftershocks following the earthquake on Thursday morning.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA-- A 5.1-magnitude tectonic earthquake jolted Klungkung District, Bali, at 5:48 a.m. local time, Thursday, the Meteorology, Geophysics, and Climatology Agency (BMKG) reported. The quake is centered 10 kilometers (km) under the sea, at 10.99 degrees south latitude and 115.07 degrees east longitude, or 256 kilometers to the southwest of Klungkung District, the agency noted on its official website, Thursday.

However, the quake had triggered no Tsunami waves or further aftershocks, the agency emphasized.

Following the quake, the Klungkung Disaster Mitigation Office said it had yet to receive any reports on fatalities or damages, the chief I Putu Widiada noted on Thursday.

"Although no reports were received, the disaster mitigation agency has checked the coastal areas in Negeri Village and Tegal Besar Village. Our agency has also maintained coordination with the sub-district chief in Banjangkaran and the local military officers," he remarked.

Earlier, on Wednesday (May 16), two tectonic earthquakes hit Pacitan District, East Java, and Tolikara District, Papua.

The Pacitan District was hit by a 5.1-magnitude tectonic earthquake that was centered 29 km under the sea, while Tolikara District was shocked by 6.1-magnitude quake situated 111 km in the waters.

"Epicenter of the Pacitan earthquake was located at 11.1 degrees south latitude and 110.35 degrees east longitude, or some 335 km to the southwest of Pacitan District. The quake occurred at 10:30 p.m. local time," the BMKG noted in a statement.

The geophysics agency stated that the Tolikara quake occurred at 9:12 a.m. local time at 3.7 degrees south latitude and 138.67 degrees east longitude, or some 32 km to the southeast of the district.

The two tectonic earthquakes had triggered no aftershocks and Tsunami waves.

Furthermore, the local disaster mitigation agency claimed that it had not yet received any reports on damages and fatalities.
