REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan began the distribution of the Jakarta Senior Citizen Card (KLJ) to the capital city's elderly population in the Johar Baru area of Central Jakarta on Tuesday. The total number of card beneficiaries has reached 12,141 elderly.

"We will implement this in stages and we hope that it would be completed in the short term," Baswedan remarked.

Senior citizens having the card will receive a monthly social assistance of Rp600 thousand, and for May, they would receive an additional Rp600 thousand from April's payment.

"The disbursement will be handled by DKI Bank, and as I have said before, we should serve senior citizens with our hearts. Ensure that they would be happy in the process," Baswedan noted.

Baswedan remarked that the Jakarta administration will continue to update data on senior citizens, and the current data was based on the Integrated Database managed by the National Team on the Acceleration of Poverty Alleviation.

"However, we will continue to update the data from year to year, so that we would not miss out on any eligible elderly citizens. This is the key message," Baswedan added.

The KLJ beneficiaries are Jakarta's citizens aged 60 years and above, with no permanent income or poor citizens due to which they are unable to fulfill their basic needs.

"The card is also given to elderly citizens, who are suffering from chronic illness and are unable to conduct any activities as well as neglected seniors. That is the criteria for being card recipients," the governor elaborated.

KLJ beneficiaries were determined based on data of Desil 1 from the Integrated Database. Desil 1 contains data on 10 percent individuals, with the lowest level of welfare.

The KLJ is expected to be distributed to a wider population of elderly in future, Baswedan noted.
