REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Regional head candidates are not allowed to campaign for the reelection of President Joko Widodo in their regional elections (pilkada) campaign. General Election Commission (KPU) commissioner, Ilham Saputra reminded that Election Supervisory Board (Bawaslu) could take action if there are reports related to it.
"Two-periods Jokowi campaign should not be done nowadays, because currently election campaign period not yet started, so there should be no presidential election content in the election campaign," said Ilham on Wednesday (April 25).
Ilham reiterated there should be no presidential election campaign material during regional elections campaign period. Otherwise, it would violate campaign provisions in regional elections itself.
He asserted 2019 presidential election campaign period will begin on September 23. The candidates names will be officially declared in the list of candidates (DCT) on September 20.
Ilham urged the people to not violate the campaign regulations. However, Bawaslu could only take action by reports. therefore, the people should file a report if they found any party stole the campaign period.
