REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Pollster Indo Barometer Executive Director M Qodari said Joko Widodo (Jokowi) most likely to have running mate from non-party or also santri (Islamic school students) background. He assessed the strategy could avoid supporting parties from getting jealous.

"There are two issues that become Jokowi's weakness, namely economic and religion," Qodari said on Thursday (April 19).

From those two issues, religious issue was more easily to be manipulated and politicized. Therefore, Jokowi would possibly choose running mate from santri background, said Qodari.

However, Jokowi who has been named by the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) as presidential candidate would still got a problem if he chose running mate from santri background. According to Qodari, if his vice president candidate came from Nahdlatul Ulama (NU), Muhammadiyah circle probably would not necessarily accept it and vice versa.

"So the right person is the one who can represent both organizations or accepted by all groups, such as Mahfud MD and Jimly Asshiddiqie," Qodari added.

Qadari said Mahfud and Jimly beceme the figures that can be selected by Jokowi. Moreover, the rejection potential for them from political parties is relatively low.

Earlier, Jokowi revealed that he was still studying the names to be his running mate in the 2019 presidential race. He said internal team of Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) was still reviewing some names.

"I have once again stated that the internal team was still reviewing the names to be selected as the vice presidential candidate," he noted, on March 26.
