Hanafi says Amien Rais not talking about political parties

Hanafi aks the people to end polemic on Amien Rais's statement.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Deputy Chairman of PAN Hanafi Rais explained that Amien's statement was not about political parties in Indonesia. Amien was talking in the context of religion.

"Amien did not mention any political parties when talking about God party (hizb Allah) and devil party (hizb syaithan)," Hanafi said in Parliament complex, Senayan, Central Jakarta, on Tuesday.

Hanafi asked the people to end the polemic. Moreover, Amien himself has explained the context of his statement. "Do not twist the statement. For those who feel offended, it's good. It means they still have faith. Rather than feeling offended, it will be better for them to change," he said.

According to Hanafi, Amien's statement was conveyed as a part of a sermon. Amien made the statement after attending Indonesia's Congregational Dawn Prayer Movement at Baiturrahim mosque, Mampang Prapatan, South Jakarta, on Friday (April 13).

"Amien does not create commotions. It was a religious sermon. Why do the people can not take it? It means there is something wrong with the persons," Hanafi reiterated.

Meanwhile, Jakarta Metro Police still investigated report against National Mandate Party (PAN) Honorary Council Chairman Amien Rais. However, the police were unable to give further details related to the development of the case.

"The case is still in investigation process," said Jakarta Metro Police spokesperson Argo Yuwono on Tuesday (April 17).

According to Argo, Jakarta Metro Police would complete information from related parties in the case, which required in investigation process. Therefore, he could not give information when the investigation will be completed.

On Sunday (15/4), Cyber Indonesia chairman Aulia Fahmi reported Amien to Jakarta Metro Police due to his statement about God's party and devil's party, that considered against the law. Aulia said the statement pitched provocation and has the potency to divide the Indonesian people who have been living harmoniously.

The police have summoned Aulia as witness in the case on Monday (April 16). Two other witnesses also have been questioned by the police.
