REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, DEPOK -- Former Bank Indonesia governor Boediono expected law enforcement and justice agencies such as Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) and the Court would be wise in making a decision. He said it to comment on the decision of South Jakarta District Court's judge that ordered KPK to named him as suspect in Bank Century bailout case.

"I fully trust their wisdom," Boediono said at University of Indonesia campus, Depok, West Java, on Friday (April 13).

Boediono said he respect the legal proceedings and leave the case to the law enforcement officers.

Boediono, as the governor of Bank Indonesia in 2008, approved a loan of Rp 689.3 billion and paved the way for Bank Century to receive a temporary capital injection of Rp 6.7 trillion from the Deposit Insurance Agency. He has been accused of approving the bailout despite knowing that Century did not qualify for the help.

According to Boediono, the policy was taken  to safe the bank in order to prevent Indonesia from economic crisis as happened in 1998.

Earlier, sole judge of South Jakarta District Court, Effendi Mukhtar has ordered the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) to continue investigating the case of Bank Century. In the verdict numbered 24 / Pid.Pra / 2018 / PN.Jkt.sel., the Judge granted the pre-trial petition filed by the Anti-Corruption Society (MAKI).

Spokesperson of South Jakarta District Court Achmad Guntur explained that KPK was ordered to name a number of former Bank Indonesia officials, including former BI governor Boediono, as suspect.

Meanwhile, House of Representatives (DPR) deputy speaker Fahri Hamzah suggested KPK to stop the investigation into Bank Century bailout case in order to avoid conflict of interest in handling the case. He said it would be better if the police take over the case.

"I think Bank Century case is not feasible to be processed by KPK, and better if National Police takes over this case," said Fahri on Thursday (April 12).

KPK's investigation into the case has been in uncertain since Jakarta Corruption Court sentenced the first suspect in the case, former BI deputy governor Budi Mulya to 10 years of imprisonment in July 2014. Previously, prosecutor's indictment against Budi mentioned Boediono's and Muliaman's names, as well as other the BI board of director members played a role in the case.

According to Fahri, there were many causes that made the Bank Century case was not processed by KPK. One of the reasons linked to the fact that KPK high official was known to become Deposit Insurance Agency (LPS) lawyer, who actually responsible in disbursing Bank Century loan funds bailout.

For that reason, National Police should take over this case again, so it can be solved or at least clear enough, Fahri added.
