REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BINJAI -- The Ministry of Trade of Indonesia has destroyed seven containers of Chinese imported fruits entering the Indonesian territory without a permit. The commodities was said to worth almost Rp 7 billion in the former PTPN2 Sei land of Binjai City, North Sumatra.

The seven containers destroyed contained eight thousand boxes of oranges and thousand boxes of Chinese apples, Director of Commerce and Security of the Director General of Consumer Protection at the Ministry of Trade, Veri Anggrijono, said here on Wednesday.

Anggrijono stated that the destruction of oranges and apples was done by burying them into the ground using heavy equipment in the area of former Cultivation Rights of PTPN 2 in Mencirim Village, Binjai City.

"This extermination is done because the horticulture products entered to Indonesia without an import permit," he said.

This violates the Regulation of the Minister of Trade No. 16/2018.

Earlier, the Ministry of Trade has also given sanctions to its importer, namely PT-SAT by revoking its import permit. He explained that the horticulture products entered Indonesia two weeks ago through Belawan port and Kuala Namu International Airport.

During inspection of documents, the importer could not complete the import permit. "We will not hesitate to crack down on importers who do not obey the rules," he stated.

The Ministry of Trade will continue monitoring with regard to protecting consumers.
