REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Chairman of Muslim Women Commission at Hospitality Forum of Inistitution of Campus Dawah (FSLDK) Indonesia, Aisyah Sadiyah said Sukmawati Soekarnoputri apology was not enough. She considered there was no regret in her apology statement.
"From the points she conveyed, it didn't show that she felt something wrong with the poem and it impressed that it was purely a literary work and legitimate," said Aisyah on Wednesday (April 4).
Therefore, Aisyah assessed legal process should be continued despite Sukmawati apology. She said it was necessary to prevent others from repeating Sukmawati's mistake, including in the name of art.
"We must consider the impact first before doing something, whether it will cause a split or not," Aisyah added.
Earlier, a number of reports of blasphemy allegedly committed by Sukmawati have kept on rolling to the police. The reports came following Sukmawati's poem titled "Ibu Indonesia".
Sukmawati read her poetry on the commemoration of Anne Avanties journey as kebaya (Javanese blouse) designer during Indonesia Fashion Week 2018 event at Jakarta Convention Centre. In the first line of her poem, she wrote I did not understand about Islamic Sharia.
Then she also said that women with bun were prettier than women with veil. Sukmawati also mentioned about the sound of Indonesian mothers hymn that is more melodious than adzan (call to prayer). The poetry was widely criticized as it was considered provoking about SARA (ethnicity, religion, and race).
Sukmawati has conveyed her apologize over her controversial poetry. She said there was no intention of insulting Indonesian Muslims through the poem.
