REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Indonesia's rail transit operator, PT Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) Jakarta, has said that two sets of MRT trains, consisting of 12 coaches, have arrived at Tanjung Priok Port in North Jakarta on Wednesday. The process to unload the trains from the cargo ship would be done on Thursday (March 5).

"It will then be sent to its depot in Lebak Bulus (South Jakarta) using a multi-axle trailer," President Director of PT MRT Jakarta, William Sabandar, stated here on Wednesday.

The delivery process would be conducted on Sunday (April 8) from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., to prevent them from causing traffic congestion.

There are 14 more trains to be received by the end of June. MRT Jakarta has targeted to receive a total of 16 trains by October, which would be prepared for a trial run.

"In the first phase, we will prepare 16 trains, of which 14 will be operated, while the other two would be for backup," he explained.

The MRT would have scheduled operations from 5 a.m. until 12 a.m. and a waiting time of five minutes between trains during peak hours.

"We hope that MRT Jakarta could become a solution for the traffic congestion problem in the capital city and would change people's way of life from using private cars to public transportation," William revealed.
