MPR to hold meeting over installation of new leaders

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) will hold a meeting on Wednesday to discuss the installation of new chair persons in the institution. All current leaders of the MPR will attend the meeting which is to be led by MPR speaker Zulikfli Hasan at 1 p.m. local time, according to MPR public relations service.

The meeting will discuss the follow up of Law Number 2 of 2018 on the second amendment of Law Number 17 of 2014 on MPR, DPR (House of Representatives), DPRD (regional legislative assembly) and DPD (Regional Representatives Council) with regard to the addition of three MPR deputy chairpersons.

Zulkifli Hasan has earlier said MPR leadership plans to hold a joint meeting on Wednesday to discuss the inauguration of three new MPR deputy chairpersons which is scheduled to be held on Thursday.

The Indonesia Democratic Party Struggle (PDIP) has officially named Ahmad Basarah as the new MPR deputy chairman from the party while PKB has named its general chairperson Muhaimin Iskandar and Gerindra Ahmad Muzani for the new positions.

Meanwhile, Deputy Chairman of MPR, Hidayat Nur Wahid, said that his side has not yet received the letter of replacement of MPR Deputy Chairman, Mahyudin, of the Golkar Party. Mahyudin was said to be replaced with the daughter of the late former president Soeharto, Siti Hediati Hariyadi (Titiek) by Golkar party.

"We have not yet received the letter of replacement of Pak (Mr) Mahyudin," Wahid stated in Temanggung, Central Java, on Tuesday.
