Marcus/Kevin collect first 100,000 points at BWF

Marcus/Kevin will become the 1st men's pair ever to earn 100 thousands point at BWF.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Marcus Fernaldi Gideon and Kevin Sanjaya Sukamulyo will become the first men's pair ever who will earn 100 thousands points at the Badminton World Federation (BWF). After reclaiming their All England title for two times in a row, these Indonesian duo's score will boost from 96,789 to 100,989 next week.

According to the BWF official website, Monday, since last year, Markus and Kevin have collected points from 15 tournaments, and 10 of the matches have been reclaimed by the pair.

During their recent tournament, the prestigious 2018 All England, Markus and Kevin has retained the title for two times in a row, after outclassing the senior Denmark players, Mathias Boe and Carsten Mogensen on two straight sets 21-8, 21-17.

After beating the Danish players on the final, Marcus and Kevin have followed their predecessors, Ricky Subagja and Rexy Mainaky who also had secured the title for two consecutive times in 1995 and 1996.

Another pair who also managed to retain the title is Kim Moon-soo and Park Joo-bong of South Korea in 1985 and 1986.

Following the winning, Marcus and Kevin have been lauded by their supporters in Indonesia, including the Youths and Sports Minister Imam Nahrawi who has expressed his gratitude on social media.

In his official Twitter account @imam-nahrawi, the minister has posted a picture of Markus and Kevin, while writing "Thanks God, Win! Kevin/Marcus for #AllEngland018!"

Meanwhile, the Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI) chief Wiranto also has congratulated the pair, after they retained the All England title.

"Once again, Indonesia should thank both of you (Marcus and Kevin). Congratulate for your win Kevin Sanjaya/Marcus Gideon for retaining the title. Perfect! #AllEnglandSuper1000," the chief who now is also serving as the Coordinating Minister of Political, Legal and Security Affairs said in his official Twitter account @wiranto1947.

A former PBSI chief Gita Wirjawan also expressed his appreciations for Marcus and Kevin in social media.

"@YonexAllEngland title for two times in a row. Incredible! @INABadminton," Wirjawan said in his official Twitter account @GWirjawan said.

The final match of the 2018 All England Badminton Tournament was held in Birmingham, UK, on Sunday. According to the BWF official website, the Japanese mixed pair Yuta Watanabe and Arisa Higashino have reclaimed their first title, after beating Zheng Siwei and Huang Yaqiong of China in 15-21, 22-20, 21-16 for 62 minutes.
