REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Political parties supporting Joko Widodo will be disappointed if Democratic Party politician Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) finally chosen as the incumbent's running mate. Moreover, those political parties have proposed their candidate to pair with Jokowi in the presidential election 2019.
"It will not be easy for other parties to accept AHY. The convention system existed and it's up to Jokowi whether to use it or not," said political observer of Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI), Indria Samego, when contacted by Republika.co.id on Wednesday (March 14).
Indria said disappointment might arose if their candidates failed to pair with Jokowi. The political parties could withdrew their support to Jokowi.
According to Indria, the real problem lies in the number of vice president candidates. There were too many options. The National Awakening Party (PKB) brought Muhaimin Iskandar or Cak Imin and the United Development Party (PPP) along with its leader Romahurmuzy also docked to Jokowi.
"All parties, except Nasdem Party, propose their own candidates. That's the problem. It's not easy to select the candidates," Indria said.
Therefore, Indria assessed Jokowi should review the best candidate to be his vice president candidate. He believed the leader of supporting parties will take the decision easily.
