REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Youth and Sports Ministry (Kemenpora) and the Federation of Indonesian Culture Creative Sports (FOKBI) will utilize the momentum offered by the 2018 Asian Games to set the world record in poco-poco. Activities to break the world record in poco-poco will be centered in Jakarta on August 5, 2018.

"We use the momentum offered by the Asian Games to hold this activity. It is time for Indonesia to shine in the world," Deputy of Sports Culture of Kemenpora Raden Isnanta noted here on Monday.

However, there are plans to perform this calisthenics of North Sulawesi origin simultaneously to coincide with the opening of the Asian Games 2018 in Jakarta and Palembang on Aug 18.

Isnanta remarked that the attempt to break the poco-poco world record was handled by FOKBI. Nevertheless, the minister is still offering guidance and funding to be submitted to the Guinness World Records.

"We give organizers the flexibility to optimize this event. Hopefully, this record-breaking event would be successful," he added.

Isnanta noted that the poco-poco activity is not only being held for breaking the world record but also for promoting the 2018 Asian Games in the world.

Meanwhile, Chairman of FOKBI Sapta Nirwandar highlighted the need for some 60 thousand participants to break the world record and 15 thousand supporters.

"Poco-poco has been introduced in the United Kingdom and the United States, so we are optimistic of achieving our target now. Earlier, poco-poco had been successfully included in the Indonesian World Record Museum (MURI)," he noted in the media center of Kemenpora.

The FOKBI needs additional efforts to convince the Guinness World Records. However, the FOKBI has received huge support from Kemenpora to realize the target of breaking the world record.

"We have conducted coordination for several months in London due to the complicated and detailed requirements. Fortunately, the FOKBI and Kemenpora are entitled to submit poco-poco calisthenics in the Guinness World Records in 2018," Chairman of the FOKBI Empowerment Program Lily Karmel stated.
