Jusuf Kalla visits Afghanistan

Jusuf Kalla will share his experience with regard to Afghanistan's peace process.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA --  Indonesian vice president Jusuf Kalla left for Afghanistan in the morning here on Tuesday for a visit until March 1 that will includes sharing his experience with regard to Afghanistan's peace process. He and his entourage were seen off by coordinating minister for political, security and legal affairs Wiranto, coordinating minister for maritime affairs Luhut B Panjaitan and Jakarta governor Anies Baswedan.

The visit was made as a follow-up to Indonesia's support to the peace process in Afghanistan following Kalla's meeting with the Afghan High Peace Council delegation at his office recently in the company of foreign minister Retno Marsudi and Afghan ambassador Roya Rahmani.

On the occasion minister Retno said that the meeting was a follow-up to a discussion on peace process and realization in Afghanistan which Indonesia fully supports.

"Indonesia has been given a trust or is acceptable to be contributor to the peace process in Afghanistan. They just now said they had appreciated Indonesia's commitment, seriousness and extra efforts so far and after we conducted 'sounding' it was found that Indonesia has also been acceptable by all parties," she said.

President Joko Widodo made a visit to Afghanistan on January 29 to show Indonesia's commitment to peace efforts in Afghanistan.

The visit was made only after the first visit to that country by Indonesian first president Soekarno in 1961.
