REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Jakarta's Vice Governor Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno is on a working visit to Tokyo, Japan, and has held a meeting with Japanese Foreign Minister Kazuyuki Nakane on Tuesday (Feb 20). After the meeting, Vice Governor Uno voiced Japan's interest to cooperate in the next phase of Jakarta's mass rapid transit construction project.

"In addition, the Japanese government has requested the Jakarta provincial administration to immediately disburse funds for the MRT project that had been delayed for quite some time," Uno noted in a press release received by Antara here on Wednesday.

In addition to discussion on cooperation in the field of MRT transportation, he noted that there was potential for cooperation in the field of wastewater management.

Uno also expressed keenness to take a cue from Japan's coordination and maintenance of public facilities that can be applied in Jakarta.

"Indonesia is also keen to gain knowledge from Japan on plants that generate power from garbage, and I hope Indonesia, especially Jakarta, would apply the technology," Uno remarked.

During the meeting, the Japanese government thanked the Jakarta provincial administration for supporting the Jakarta-Japan Matsuri (JJM) Festival.

The Japanese government is also optimistic that the Jakarta provincial administration would offer better support for the event in 2018 to commemorate 60 years of relations between Japan and Indonesia.

The JJM Festival was first held in 2008 to commemorate five decades of diplomatic relations between the two countries and has become an annual agenda since then.

Currently, various cultural exchanges among communities of both countries are being actively conducted, including Japanese pop culture, such as anime, manga, and cosplay, a form of costumed role-playing, often modeled after a fictional character from comics or movies.

JJM aims to enhance mutual understanding at the public level.
