Perpetrator of al Quba mosque incident remains a mystery

No witness see perpetrator who assault al Quba mosque.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SUKABUMI -- Perpetrator who made a mess in al Quba mosque in Parungkuda district, Sukabumi, West Java on Monday (Feb 12) morning was still unidentified. Police said there was no witness who saw the incident.

Parungkuda Police head Nusirwan said the absence of witness made the perpetrator hard to be identified. Nevertheless, he expected the case can be solved in the near future. "We are still investigating and trying to catch the suspect," said Nusirwan on Wednesday (Feb 14).

Early on Monday, al Quba mosque was ruffled by unidentified people. Local residents found the mosque very messy with prayer rugs and the Quran were put recklessly on the floor ahead of dawn prayers.

No items missing in the incident. Police could not ensure whether the perpetrator suspected to have mental disorders.

The incident reported to Parungkuda police by the mosque staff, Ujang. He filed a report soon after seeing the mess in al Quba mosque. "This is the first case happened in the area. We always leave the mosque open, never locked the doors," he said.

Based on information from other residents, Ujang said an unidentified person was seen around al Quba mosque on Sunday (Feb 11). The person looked stress. At that time, the residents were conducting recitation at al Ikhlas mushala, located near al Quba mosque.

Ujang said, after reciting the Quran, the congregation tried to oust the stranger who threatened local residents. "However, they could not confirmed whether the perpetrator of the incident was the same person," he remarked.
