REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Minister of Social Affairs Khofifah Indar Parawansa said here on Tuesday that she will deliver a letter of resignation from her position in office on Tuesday to advance in East Java's 2018 Governor Election.

"With God's grace, today I submit a proposal for the permit to register in the election and request to proceed in the process of contestation, and when we are officially going forward as governor candidates, we are asking for permission to withdraw from the cabinet membership," she said.

Speaking at the vice presidential office here, she further stated that she planned to deliver the letter today. "I will check up on it this afternoon, as I have assigned someone," she remarked.

The minister planned to register herself through the East Java National Election Commission on Wednesday morning.

She also admitted to have uttered her plans to withdraw herself from the cabinet in order to participate in the election to Vice President Jusuf Kalla.

"I am aware that some may not understand, but the Vice President and I are very close. We are like father and daughter in laws. We built our communication from a long time ago, so much like a father to her own daughter, there are a lot of memories and impressions," she said.

Khofifah will compete in this year's East Java Gubernatorial Election. Head of Trenggalek District Emil Elistianton Dardak will be her running mate.
