REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Head of the National Cyber and Encryption Agency (BSSN) Major General TNI Djoko Setiadi reiterated that the agency will remain neutral during the simultaneous regional elections in 2018, and the general elections in 2019.

"Trust us, in regional and presidential elections we have never taken the side of a certain party. We are neutral," Djoko said here on Friday.

BSSN, he noted, will focus on security issues that are linked to technology development.

He gave the example of the railway system that has used advanced technology and it is the agency's responsibility to protect the facility from any threats.

Djoko revealed that there was some misunderstanding before the Presidential election in 2014 when the National Code Agency (Lemsaneg) was accused of pushing for victory of a certain party.

At the time, he explained, Lemsaneg just wanted to show the Parliament the weaknesses in the General Election Commission's (KPU) central data security system, and prove how easily Lemsaneg could dislocate data on the system.

"But the allegation that Lemsaneg could push the victory of whosoever it wanted was refuted (by the agency)," he added.

So the agency has decided to cancel its plan to help improve KPU's cyber security to avoid such accusations.

Djoko has also called on all parties to help secure the simultaneous regional elections, and the presidential election.

"Be sure that BSSN will do its best to remain neutral. No party will be oppressed. Let us secure this event," Djoko emphasized.
