REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Almost nine months passed, attack case against Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) investigators Novel Baswedan still unsolved. Entering 2018, Jakarta Metro Police again received public questions related to its ability in handling the case.

Spokesperson of Jakarta Metro Police, Raden Prabowo Argo Yuwono repeatedly said the Police was serious in handling the case. But until now there has been no name set as suspect of acid attack against Novel

On recent developments, the police have released two sketches of attackers and invited the public to report via telephone hotline if they meet figures similar to the sketchs.

"We got 1,058 reports on the hotline, 700 calls and 300 short messages," said Argo at Jakarta Police Headquarters, Jakarta, on Tuesday (January 2).

In community reports by telephone, Argo said that there were various complaints. There was people who just question about the extent of case development, some were asking if it was necessary to use paranormal. "There were also people who called for fad," he said.

He stated that the police has re-contacted the complainants. However, it still has not been able to obtain significant information to the case development. "The investigators are still working to uncover the assailants," Argo said.

Novel Baswedan was attacked by sulfuric acid (H2SO4) on Tuesday, April 11, 2017. Until now, the man who handles the corruption case of e-ID procurement is undergoing intensive treatment in Singapore to cure his vision because of the impact of the attack.

Police also have no plans to conduct another examination in the near future. However, Argo said the police continued to analyze and conduct case titles to look case progress. They did not set a target when the case will be resolved. "As soon as possible," he said.

Novel's case is not the only case that seems dormant. The murder of college student Akseyna, the murder of Puspo Arum, and the attack of telematics exoert Hermansyah should also be the attention of Jakarta Metro Police, particularly in the investigator fields. Argo also stated, entering 2018, Jakarta Metro Police still trying to solve another cases.

"We still trying to solve another cases and not fixated by the year," he said.

Police role in investigation field has been one of the highlights in the police report last year. Executive Director of the Institute of Police Studies Indonesia (Lemkapi) Edi Saputra Hasibuan said, although in general the people are satisfied with the Police's performance, the institute found there are 21.6 percent of people are still not satisfied. In this case, the investigation field is the main spotlight.

"Investigation field is the most complained by people, the police need to conduct an investigation management," said Edi.

He said that the main reason for public discontent, because there are cases which still not unsolved, such as Novel Baswedan's case.

Chairman of the Ombudsman of the Republic of Indonesia (ORI) Amzulian Rifai also highlighted the case resolution management by the Polri's investigators. It was seen from reports received by ORI related to the police's performance in the investigator field were still high.

"The second highest after the local government," said Rifai, on Friday, December 29, 2017.

For that, he said, it needed an indicator of the completion of community reports related to the settlement time of cases. Police need to classify the reasonable time until case completed, so people will not just waiting.

"It's necessary to have time benchmark when will the case be completed. It needed to increase public trust. The institution with low community trust is a problem," he said.
