REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The police will summon a number of witnesses in order to process the case of alleged insult to Habib Rizieq Shihab by a social media campaigner Ade Armando through his Facebook. Spokesperson of National's Police, Inspector General Setyo Wasisto said, the case is handled by Directorate of Public Crime. "We will summon witnesses and search the evidence," said Setyo at National's Police Headquarters, Jakarta, on Tuesday (January 2) night.
He explained, that they still can not decide whether this case will be handled by Jakarta Metro Police or National's Police. It will be deciced by looking at the progress of reporting. But so far, the reporting was done to the Criminal Investigation Agency of National's Police.
"If it happened in some areas, the case will be taken by National's Police," he said.
On December 28, 2017, Ade who is also a lecturer of the University of Indonesia reported to Criminal Investigation Agency of National's Police by a woman who claimed to be a student of Habib Rizieq, Ratih Puspa Nusanti.
Ade was accused of insulting Habib Rizieq Shihab through an edited photograph of Habib Rizieq on Facebook. According to her, Ade uploaded edited images of Habib Rizieq and a number of other scholars wearing Christmas attributes.
Confirmed separately, Ade confessed to be confused with the allegations addressed to him. He said, the photograph was uploaded with information that it was hoax.
"I said that in my status, it's a hoax," said Ade when contacted by Republika.co.id, on Thursday.
He said, the caption was exactly explain if the image he uploaded was hoax. He also suspected the possibility of misunderstanding from the accuser who did not understand the context of his Facebook's post. In addition, he also claimed to only share the photo with his caption, but not edited the photo.
