REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The youth and sports ministry will help prepare athletes for the national team to compete in the 2023 Basketball World Championship, after Indonesia was selected as a co-host with the Philippines and Japan, officials said.

As a first step, the youth and sports ministry (Kemenpora), in cooperation with the Basketball Association of the Jakarta provincial government, has trained 75 basketball coaches and academics, who are expected to present young talented athletes, either through traditional means or based on scientific methods, according to Marheni Dyah Kusumawati, assistant to the sports organization affairs of Kemenpora, here on Friday.

"There should no longer be instant preparation, especially in today's era. We can no longer find talent traditionally but must use science and technology for higher accuracy in finding better talent," Kusumawati noted.

The training session for the basketball coaches and academics was held over a five-day period. The trainers are expected to become instructors for the young basketball athletes.
