REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Vice President Jusuf Kalla called on all religions to aim for peace in the world.

"Today, we saw mass rallies to protest against the US decision on Jerusalem. We know Jerusalem as a holy city for several religions such as Islam, Christianity, and Jews. However, dispute have become a quandary for religions," Kalla stated here on Wednesday.

He launched the 2017 Religions for Peace Asia Interfaith Youth Peace Camp at the Vice President Palace.

He added that several conflicts related to religious difference also occurred in some countries.

Meetings that call for harmony despite religious diversity are important to improve tolerance among people.

He noted that Indonesia gives equal rights to any religion and special holidays to celebrate religious occasions.

"However, the most important effort is to implement the result of the meeting. We thank the youth who attended the event to discuss peace and climate change," Kalla remarked.

Kalla explained that the improvement on climate change depends on the people's lifestyle.

He added that people must implement the results from any summit and discussion about climate change as well as religions peace and harmony in their lives.

At least 68 members attended the youth peace camp from 17 countries in Asia and Pacific.

The annual year meeting is a youth dialogue forum that discusses recent issues in Asia. The committee has picked the theme "Raising Awareness on Climate Change: 'Gotong Royong' for Our Earth."
