REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BANDUNG -- Indonesia's Trade Minister Enggartiasto Lukita has ensured adequate supply of basic necessities ahead of the Christmas and New Year's celebrations and no significant price hike.

"All supplies are adequate, and it has been circulated normally. Meat (price) is normal, while the price of chicken has slightly increased, but I can still accept this level. The farmers have made some adjustment, but the supply is still abundant," Enggartiasto noted during an inspection at the Kosambi Market here, Monday.

The minister has monitored the prices of some basic necessities, including rice, chicken, and vegetables. He held a dialog with traders at the market.

According to the traders, the price of chicken and medium-quality rice has slightly increased.

The price of chicken at the Kosambi market has reached Rp32 thousand per kilogram (kg), medium-quality rice at Rp10 thousand per kg, premium-quality rice at Rp11 thousand per kg, eggs at Rp24 thousand per kg, white sugar at Rp12 thousand per kg, and edible oil at Rp12 thousand per kg.

"The supply ahead of the Christmas and New Year's celebrations is adequate. Hence, we have sent our officials to monitor the situation in some regions," he stated.

However, the minister has called on the State Logistics Agency (Bulog) to conduct market operations in preparation of a likely price hike.

"We have now conducted market operations. We urged Bulog to intensify the operation in all markets. Bulog will be at the forefront to stabilize prices and avoid the price hike game," he revealed.

The ministry has also coordinated with the trade office in regions to ensure stability in the price of basic necessities, he added.
