Ahmad Dhani to be examined as hate speech suspect

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- South Jakarta Police Chief, Police Commissioner Iwan Kurniawan confirmed that musician Ahmad Dhani will undergo his first examination as suspect in the case of hate speech in social media on Thursday (November 30). 

"We have sent a letter of summon on Thursday," Iwan said when confirmed by reporters on Tuesday (November 28). 

Iwan explained, that Ahmad Dhani's status raised from witness to suspect based on the finding of two evidences. 

The case screening was done on last Thursday (November 23). 

The police found two juridical considerations in the two evidences. Criminal element was met during the case screening. 

"Our consideration that there are two evidences to our juridical judgement. From the preliminary investigation and further investigation, we have found there are two sufficient evidences to establish his status as suspect," he said.

He added that police processed Dhani's case purely as a criminal act and not fabricated. He stressed, the case was not a political case either. "This case was being processed because there are reports from the public," he said.

Meanwhile, Dhani's lawyer, Ali Lubis said his client has received the summon. He stated, Dhani will meet the summon.

"He will follow the legal process," he said when confirmed on Tuesday.

On March 6, Dhani tweeted using @AHMADDHANIPRAST that "Anyone who supports blasphemer is a bast**d who needs to be spat in his face - ADP."

His comments fueled the anger of Basuki Tjahaja Purnama (Ahok)'s supporters, one of them was Jack Lapian. 

On March 9, Jack filed a police report against Dhani to Jakarta Metro Police. 

Jack reported Ahmad Dhani for allegedly violating Article 28 paragraph 2 of Jo Article 45 paragraph 2 of Law No. 19 of 2016 on ITE.
