REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, MEDAN -- President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) here, Friday, departed for North Tapanuli, North Sumatra, to inaugurate the Silangit International Airport.
The head of state arrived at the Silangit Airport from Medan aboard a helicopter, Bey Machmudin, the deputy in charge of protocol, the press, and media of the Presidential Secretariat, noted here, Friday.
Silangit Airport was upgraded to an international airport on October 28, 2017.
With a capacity to annually serve 500 thousand passengers, the Silangit Aiport has the custom, immigration, and quarantine facilities; a runway measuring 2,650 meters in length and 50 meters in width; and PCN capable of accommodating Airbus A320 and Boeing 737-800.
Designed to be a smart airport, it has free Wi-Fi facility, flight and bus schedule display, e-payment, bus ticketing machine, a tourist information booth, self check-in facility, and several other digital features.
From North Tapanuli, the president headed to Langkat to hand over Smart Indonesian cards and Hopeful Family Program cards to several local residents.
Jokowi is scheduled to offer Friday prayer in Stabat Sub-district, Langkat District, and later distribute land certificates to the local people.
In the afternoon, he is scheduled to return to Medan, the North Sumatran provincial capital.
Members of the presidential entourage include Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs Luhut Pandjaitan, Public Works and Public Housing Minister Basuki Hadimuljono, and Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung.
