FPI stages rally demanding legal process on Viktor Laiskodat

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- FPI secretary general Habib Novel said, about 10 thousand people will walk from the Cut Nyak Dien Mosque to the National's Police Criminal Agency (Bareskrim) Headquarters in the Gambir area of Central Jakarta on Friday. 

Novel revealed that the mass demanded the investigators to immediately complete the legal process against Viktor Laiskodat related hatred and defamation.

Novel accused the cChairman of NasDem Party faction has caused an uproar and divided the Indonesian nation because he uttered words that offend tribe, religion, race and intergroup (SARA). 

Meanwhile, officers of Jakarta Metro Police and Central Jakarta Metro Police were ready to secure the Islamic Defenders Front (FPI) rally to demand completion of investigation against Democratic National Party politician Viktor Laiskodat over alleged defamation. 

"We set up personnel from Central Jakarta Metro Police assisted by Jakarta Metro Police based on estimated numbers of protesters," said spokesperson of Jakarta Metro Police, Commissioner Argo Yuwono in Jakarta, Friday (November 24).

Earlier, on Tuesday, Director of Public Crimes on National Polices Criminal Investigation Agency, Brigadier General Herry Rudolf Nahak said Viktor was protected by Parliamentary immunity

"According to the information, he said it during recess. He had a letter of assignment while carrying out his duties. So he, as member of Parliament, has the rights of immunity as stated in the Act of Parliament. The police do not have the authority to process the case," said Nahak, Tuesday (November 21).

On Thursday, spokesperson of Indonesia National Police, Rikwanto denied the news.

"The news in the media stating cases of alleged blasphemy involving VL has been stopped by Bareskrim investigators is not true," said Head of Public Information Bureau of the Indonesia National Police, Rikwanto, Thursday (November 23).

Rikwanto insisted Bareskrim investigators are still investigating reports of alleged defamation which involved Nasdem Party Faction Chairman in the House of Representative. He said investigators still need some information from witnesses who were present at the scene. 

"Investigators still need some more information from the witnesses present at the crime scene, as well as expert witnesses of linguists," he said.
