REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, PALEMBANG -- The Musi Sriwijaya event, scheduled to be held in Palembang's Kuto Besar Theater Resto Friday, will bring together Indonesian and Dutch musicians on one stage.

Indonesia's renowned musician Dwiki Dharmawan will collaborate with the Rembrandt Frerichs Trio of the Netherlands. Local Palembangnese jazz musician Pall Jazz will also perform at the event.

Najamuddin Ramly, Director of Cultural Legacy and Diplomacy, stated that the event was initiated by the Ministry of Education and Culture, Erasmus Huis, and the South Sumatra Culture and Tourism Offices.

"This event aims to showcase the cultural diversity in Indonesia and in South Sumatra itself, through interaction, workshops and joint concerts," he said.

It is hoped that the event can create cultural interactions that can eventually increase opportunities for cooperation, especially for cultural communities, he added.

Indonesia and the Netherlands have close historical ties in the cultural sector and in February 2017, the Indonesian Minister of Education and Culture and his Dutch counterpart signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) covering museums, legacies, cultural archives, education, arts, films and the shaping of joint work groups.

This concert is part of the implementation process of the MoU and the government's efforts to strengthen people-to-people contact between Indonesia and the Netherlands.

The Rembrandt Frerichs Trio held a workshop for jazz musicians in Palembang Thursday night (Nov 16).
