Rupiah tumbles 1.27 percent against US dollar in October

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Indonesian rupiah depreciated 1.27 percent against the US dollar to Rp13,523.07 in October 2017, the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) said.

By province, the rupiah saw its lowest mid rate of Rp13,609 against the US dollar in Central Java in the third week of October, BPS Chief Suhariyanto said here on Wednesday.

The rupiah also tumbled by 0.05 percent against the Japanese yen to Rp118.91 last month, with the lowest mid rate of Rp122.50 recorded in the second week of October 2017 in Riau province, he stated.

In addition, the local unit also weakened by 0.97 percent against the euro to Rp15,898.83 in October 2017, with the lowest mid rate of Rp16,019 recorded in Central Sulawesi province in the second week of October this year, he noted.

However, the rupiah appreciated by 0.28 percent against the Australian dollar to Rp10,474.96 in October 2017, with the highest mid rate of Rp10,159.96 recorded in Papua province in the second week of October 2017, he added.

The rupiah again fell 4 points to close at Rp13,555 against the dollar in the Jakarta inter-bank spot market on Wednesday as compared to the previous close of Rp13,551.

"The rupiah fell slightly against the Australian dollar, while market agents are anticipating the US inflation data for October, which is expected to increase," Monex Investindo Futures chief researcher, Ariston Tjendra, revealed on Wednesday.
