REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Deputy House Speaker Fahri Hamzah said he was disappointed by the leaking of the Corruption Eradication Commission's (KPK's) Letter of Investigation Order (Sprindik) on House Speaker Setya Novanto (Setnov).

The KPK should have protected the letter of investigation order on the Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR) from leaking.

"The KPK has acted carelessly with regard to the leaking of the investigation secrets," Hamzah stated at the Parliament building here on Tuesday.

He noted that the KPK should have been careful as the DPR was an important institution in Indonesia and that all the ethics must be observed while investigating its chairman.

The legislator remarked that in Indonesia, the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) has a decision regarding the ethics in politics and running the government. This ethics is often observed by the KPK, but, in this case, it did not do the same thing.

"The KPK has tarnished the working standards of the country's institutions. It should have used the ethics standards in the case of Novanto, similar to how it had covered up its investigation of a number of other state officials," he noted.

He added that it was not correct to still ban Novanto from travelling overseas while he had won the case in a pretrial.

Hamzah revealed that his statement should not only concern Novanto but also on whoever the DPR speaker was. He added that the KPK action violated the ethics of the working standards on the state institutions.

It was earlier suspected that a letter (of investigation) linked to Novanto was believed to have been issued by the KPK, with a registration NO. B.619/23/11/2017 dated Nov 3, 2017.

Novanto was charged of corruption in the procurement of electronic identity cards (e-ID) projects at the Home Affairs Ministry in 2011-2012.

The House Speaker was charged along with Anang Sugiana Sudihardjo, Andi Agustinus alias Andi Narogong, Irman, Sugiharto, and his friends.
