REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Ministry of Communications and Informatics (Kemenkominfo) has blocked six DNS Tenor, GIF format content providers on Whatsapp instant messaging application.

The ministry also has given an ultimatum to Whatsapp to immediately stop providing pornographic content in GIF format.

"If Whatsapp did not give a serious response, we will immediately block it like we did to Telegram previously," Director General of Information Applications at Ministry of Communications and Informatics, Semuel Abrijani Pangerapa said on Monday (November 6).

A warning of pornographic content in GIF format has been circulating in the public and the uproar reached its peak on Sunday (November 5).

Samuel said, to respond public concern, Kemenkominfo has sent notices to Facebook as owner of Whatsapp, for three times since Sunday until Monday dawn.

According to him, Facebook has given a slow response due to time difference between Indonesia and US.

On Sunday night, Facebook stated they will contact third parties who provide GIF format content. Nevertheless, Facebook could not directly block inappropriate content in GIF format as it was an end-to-end encrypted messages.

"The service was provided by Tenor," Samuel explained.

Therefore, Kemenkominfo decided to block tenor.com, api.tenor.com, blog.tenor.com, qa.tenor.com, media.tenor.com and media1.tenor.com.
