Two earthquakes hit Gorontalo

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, GORONTALO -- Two earthquakes measuring 2.1 and 5.6 respectively on the Richter scale hit Gorontalo province on Wednesday night.

The epicenter of the first quake, which struck at 21.34 Central Indonesia Time (WITA) was located 29 kilometers northwest of Boalemo district at a depth of 37 kilometers, spokesman for the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) office in Gorontalo, Yudi Bramantyo said.

The second quake, which struck at 21.40 WITA was centered 95 kilometers southwest of Gorontalo at a depth of 71 kilometers, he said.

The two quakes did not have the potential to trigger a tsunami, he said.
