REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- During three years of the government led by Joko Widodo and Jusuf Kalla (Jokowi-JK), Transportation Ministry focuses to build airports especially in the eastern part of Indonesia such as East Nusa Tenggara, to support its connectivity and accessibility.
During an event of "Three Years Achievement of Jokowi-JK" at the Presidential Staff Office here on Tuesday, Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi emphasized that the current government is no longer carrying out development only in Java Island (Java centric), but based on the national interest by improving connectivity in frontier, outermost and remote (3T) areas.
"East Nusa Tenggara consists of many islands that require us to build airport almost in its every island. In Flores only, we plan to build three to four airports to ensure its accessibility," Sumadi told the press.
Among transportation infrastructures will be developed in East Nusa Tenggara are Kabir Pantar Airport, Haliwen Airport, DC Saulede Airport, Baranusa Feeder Port and Raijua Crossing Pier.
In order to East Nusa Tenggara, the ministry also builds infrastructures in 3T areas including the docks in eastern Sumatra and west of Kalimantan, ports in northern Sulawesi and Kalimantan as well as airports and cattle ships in Papua.
Related to sea connectivity, Sumadi emphasized on air and sea tolls which are proven to reduce the price disparity by 20 to 40 percent.
"The sea toll currently has 13 trajectories undertaken by state-owned and private companies, which has reduced the price disparity by 20 to 40 percent," he said.
Government's efforts to support economy in eastern Indonesia is as well conducted by providing the stimulus of trade follow the ship to provide opportunities of increasing fish production, tapioca starch and processed seaweed to be distributed to western Indonesia.
Ministry of Transportation is currently constructing five additional livestock vessels planned for completion in December 2017 with a total budget of Rp295 billion.
