REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Chairman of Indonesia Police Watch (IPW) Neta S Pane said alleged bribery case of Uber nvolving police member, is embarrassing the law enforcement institution. Moreover, the case has become international issue.

The United States police even came to Indonesia to investigate the case. Ironically, Neta explained, the case occurred when the administration of President Joko Widodo was aggressively eradicating illegal charges.

Polri is morally responsible to investigate it thoroughly, he added. "There is no other way for the Police, other than having to help the US police team to dismantle this Uber case completely and bring the perpetrator to court as soon as possible," said Neta in a written statement received by Republika.co.id on Friday.

He asked the Police to immediately investigate this case to find out whether there are members who were involved or some who brought the name of the Police institution to get funds from Uber.

Bloomberg reported that the US Department of Justice highlighted the unusual payments made by Uber last year.

The report said Indonesian police explained to Uber that its office in Jakarta is located in an area that should not be allowed to open a business. An Uber employee then sent money to the police several times for Uber to continue operating in the area.

"The oddity is that the location permit has nothing to do with the Police because it is the authority of the local government," he said.
