REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Politician of Proseperous Justice Party (PKS), Memed Sosiawan criticized government plan to sell the state-owned enterprises (BUMN) due to reduce BUMN domination and their subsidiaries in domestic economy. He also said that the handover of airports and ports management to private sector was not a viable solution.

"We need to evaluate first about the profit and loss. Selling BUMN is a primitive measure," said Chairman of Economics, Techno Industry and Environment Division PKS party when contacted by Republika.co.id on Wednesday (October 11).

Furthermore, he reminded about the government's policy in the past, which in the era of former president Megawati has sold Indonesia second largest telecommunications firm, Indosat shares. Mamad said the government must take that as a lesson, because he assessed it was not a right move.

"A country with many of highly educated people can take a right and smart measure in order to make BUMN has good quality for public," he added.

Previously, Indonesia government raised the discourse to sell state-owned enterprises and the subsidiaries because both of those were dominate economic activity in this country.

Ministry of Transportation later intended to hand over the management of a number of airports and ports to the private sector under the pretext of saving the use of the state budget.
