REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) is expected to always be brave and consistent in investigating alleged involvement of chairman of the House of Representatives, Setya Novanto, in the e-ID card graft case.

One of Golkar Party Youth Generation (GMPG) inisiators, Almanzo Bonara, said there is no reason for any parties to hinder KPK's effort. "Moreover, KPK has several evidences, different from previously presented in pretrial," he said in a written statement on Thursday (October 5).

On September 29, judge Cepi Iskandar granted a pretrial motion filed by Novanto against KPK. After winning it, his status as the suspect in e-ID card graft case is cleared

However, the Supreme Court (MA) has confirmed that KPK has the authority to name Novanto as a suspect on his case, again. The authority was regulated under Article 2 paragraph 3 of Supreme Court Regulation No.4/2016.

According to MA, investigators now should use at least two new pieces of evidences other than those already used when Novanto was first named as suspect. A pretrial only takes into account the formality of a case and does not judge on the crime.

"We believe KPK has some other new evidences, so a new investigation warrant (sprindik) must be issued immediately," Almanzo explained.
