REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has questioned Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi as a witness in a graft case involving some procurement projects of the ministry's Directorate General of Sea Transportation for the 2016-2017 budget.

"He is questioned as a witness for a suspect Adiputra Kurniawan," a spokesman of the anti-graft body Febri Diansyah said here, Tuesday.

The minister arrived at the KPK building at 8:20 a.m. local time and chose to not give any statement to reporters.

The KPK has named non-active Director General of Sea Transportation Antonius Tonny Budiono and Commissioner of PT Adhi Guna Keruktama Adiputra Kurniawan as suspects in the graft case.

The anti-graft body has unearthed information and details on alleged bribes given to Budiono.

During a raid at Budiono's house, the KPK seized US$479,700; 660,249 Singapore dollars; 15,540 Pound Sterling; 50 thousand Vietnamese Dong; 4,200 Euros; 11,212 Malaysian Ringgit; and Rp5.7 billion stashed away in 33 bags.

Kurniawan had allegedly given the money to Budiono in connection with the dredging project of the Tanjung Mas Port in Semarang, Central Java.

The case is being investigated under Law No. 20 of 2001 on corruption eradication.
