REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Entering the age of 70, Indonesian military (TNI) continued to make improvements. One of the focus was improving the welfare of soldiers. Previously, the government has been working to increase the remuneration of soldiers up to 56 percent.

TNI Commander, Gen. Gatot Nurmantyo, was grateful to the remuneration of soldiers that has increased to 56 percent. However, the military hoped that the remuneration could increase to 100 percent.

Indeed, in an effort to meet its needs, the soldiers were still experiencing several problems, especially in the case of salary and benefits of performance, which was on average only about Rp 2 million to Rp 3 million per month.

Therefore, Gatot said, improving the welfare of the soldiers was still the main focus in the development of military force, in the momentum of 70th TNI anniversary celebrations, Monday (5/10).

''It depends on economic conditions of the country. However, the soldier's welfare becomes the focus that we continue to improve,'' said Gatot, at the TNI Headquarters, Cilangkap, East Jakarta, Sunday (4/10).

The fulfillment of the soldiers' welfare was expected to make the military personnel be soldiers who have identity, professional, well-trained, well-educated, and not include in practical politics and business. This was in accordance with the mandate in Act No. 34 of 2004 on the TNI.
